Legacy
Friesians Update: Goliath has found a new home in Virginia! Congratulations
Michelle!!!!
After
almost a year of researching breeds for the purchase of my very first horse,
I was led back time and time again to the amazing Friesian. The biggest
challenge, however, came in finding the right match and not making the
classic "first owner mistakes" - especially with such a big investment. I
was so lucky to find Sue and Legacy Friesians in my internet travels -
and now
send her a thank you each day that I get neck nuzzles from my new guy Goliath.
She responded to my questions immediately - and was very attentive to
the details of what I wanted in a horse. Many other finders had made me feel
like any Friesian would do and pushed many horses my way that were not what
I needed or wanted. I was being pretty particular and she was patient and
kind with me on this. She was up front about pros and cons and made me feel
that my patience in the end would pay off. Through her connections
in the
breed, she came across a match that worked. I flew across the country meet
him. While I was there, she was immediately available by phone to answer
my questions during the evaluation and purchase process. As I had more
questions - she helped guide me to make sure I was confident in my decisions
particularly concerning the breed. I'd find more questions - she'd answer
them - no problem. It was like having your best friend available during
a stressful time - and I cannot say enough about how great she was. After
the purchase, she helped guide me in transport information and followed
up frequently to make sure both he and I were doing ok. Most important
to point out is that Sue did all of this on her own - not a part of
the purchase or deal. She willingly shared all her guidance and support after
a simple email request to help find a horse ! The best part was the horse
she led me to - one she had imported a year ago. He came from a very loving
environment, which shows every day. He is everything and more than I have
dreamed of. I also cannot say enough about the breed - I truly could fill
a whole barn with these guys - they are amazing creatures. If
you are interested in this breed at all - and especially if you are just learning
about the Friesians - do not pass up this amazing resource. Sue clearly
has her heart in the right place and is the kind of person you want to
work with - to help make safe and honest decisions. I feel like I have someone
to turn to even now if I run into a breed specific issue - and of course,
when I 'm ready to purchase Friesian number two.

Update
from Hope on July 21, 2005:
A photo of Goliath from tonight. I've been
riding him for the past few weeks now and he's added a bit of muscle!
The sun here is horrid on the black coat but I refuse to lock him up during
the day because of it. Gotta let him live! I do have him in his stall to
provide lots of shade but he has a big run out the back of it that he can
go into also and a little sun goes a long way. The Arizona sun sure is a
cooker.:) I took him on a trail ride the other day and he did wonderful. I
had a girl with an older dead broke horse go along and he was calm with
another horse by his side. I am not attempting it alone for a while.:)
Update
from Hope on June 27, 2005:
"Well
I am riding Goliath now.... I had him Started and under saddle in 4
days..... He's the best and my favorite horse now. I just love
his personality."
Update
from Hope on May 26, 2005:
"Here
he is two weeks later and a little more meat on the frame.:) He's just beautiful!
.... I
love him! He's the nicest guy and I just can't believe how
gentle he really is. I'll send more photo's when I get them."
Update
from Hope on May 13, 2005, just after picking him up:
"Here
is the first Photo of Goliath in his new home! I wanted to send it before
I head to bed, we just made it home and Goliath is doing well. I haven't
had time to get familiar with him since we were on the road all day today.
But he did wonderful and didn't make a peep on the whole trip. I was very
suprised. He's nice and calm and don't seem to be a spooky guy at all either.
So happy he is here. I'll let you know more once I get some sleep. "
