Hindrik Lauwers is an extraordinary 6 year old gelding with Show and Expo experience. He is the perfect horse for the rider who primarily wants to compete in dressage as their main goal as anything else would be a waste of his talent. He has been to many shows in Holland as they showed him all the way through M level there and he was the high point winner in several of them. We bought him last summer and sent him to Sylvia Lindström in Sweden for more training. In Sweden, Sylvia showed him twice in different Horse Expos where she rode him to music and demonstrated his extensions, half pass, leg yields, and counter canter. She also has ridden him outside and around the town.

Personally, I think Hindrik would be perfect for a competitive dressage rider who has had Warmbloods in the past.... someone who has always admired the Friesian temperament, but doubted that a Friesian could have the same athletic ability as a warmblood. Hindrik most certainly has that talent and he will make a believer out of you! Additionally, he is so sweet- typical Friesian temperament - and has the breathtaking good looks (complete with "Fabio" hair) that we all fall in love with!

This is what Sylvia says about Hindrik:

" Híndrik Lauwers is forward and eager to work and always wants to do things right. I love his canter! There are not many 5 year old friesians that so easily learn to counter canter on a circle. This demands a lot of power and energy from a young horse, but for Hindrik it has never been a problem. He is easy on the leg and has a pleasant and gentle personality. I think he is the ideal competition horse for especially a female rider. He needs a rider with sensibility and a gentle touch and should not be treated in a harsh way. If you treat him right you will have a sport companion who will never let you down!"

Update:
Today I started working with Hindrik on the long reins (from the ground) with "halbe Tritte", the first step when you teach the piaffe. He did some really nice steps, so I will continue with that as long as we are here. He has really talent for it. I was also outside and ground drove and he was perfect!!!

Hindrik has mastered leg yields, shoulder in, haunches in, renvers and half pass.

He canters from the walk and from the halt, can canter on a 10m circle, is stable and secure in counter canter in both direction, does stable simple changes. He will easily learn flying changes, but it is more important to have the counter canter stable and better for the young horse not to skip any of the building blocks in his training.

He has a very good walk (important for the competitions!!) and is a wonderful and elegant mover.
