Iris
has been sold! Congratulations to Lynn of Candor, NY!!!
Dear
Sue
My
sincere thanks to you for allowing us to purchase Iris from you, in foal
as she was to Onne. This had to be a difficult decision for you to make
to part with her, but as you know, the moment I saw her on your webpage
(which I check like every other day!) ....I was smitten with her, thought
she was beautiful and unobtainable although she never left my mind.....and
every time I checked your webpage I would look at Iris......One day, I
noticed new pictures, and then did a double take because her price was
now within my reach! After talking with my husband, and speaking with you
about Iris' personality, we decided that Iris woudl come live with us,
and we have been thrilled with her from day one.
She
is more beautiful and elegant and big! than the pictures on your webpage
show. She is spirited, but tractable, very intelligent, listens to me,
and best of all settled in to her new surroundings without skipping a beat.
She was everything you said she was, and so much more.
Now
to her foal, her little darling girl, who was born last night after 10
minutes of easy labor, and whom we haven't named yet, but we're working
on it: she is just about perfect in our opinion! This baby was up on her
sternum while her hind feet were still inside her mother! She proceeded
immediately to crawl around to her mom's head, little by little, and then
she used her mom's front legs to try and stand, while mom patiently lay
there, resting. All of this action took less than 10 minutes! Truly incredible--we
have had many foals born here but not one has taken the challenge of crawling
around to their mother's head while they are but five minutes old!
We
left mom and baby alone today, but for the vet's visit, so I will take
some shots tomorrow for you. Thanks again, and what do think my third Legacy
Friesian will be? Hmmmmm...maybe a nice gelding for the trails?
Best
regards,
Lynn
Update
March 18:
"Marissa
(tht's Iris' new name) had a baby filly tonight while our vet was in the
barn looking at another mare. She's gorgeous and incredibly precocious,
the fastest up, fastest learner, most persistent thing I've ever seen."
"Marissa
has been an unbelieveable mom, and the baby is incredibly strongwilled
and smart! Lynn"
On
First Arrival: Hi
Sue,
Just
came up from the barn! Yes,
late last night at 1:30AM and she is perfect. Bob (Hardy the shipper) did
a great job, she was calm, drank a whole bucket of water, settled and rolled
in her stall like she had lived there her whole life and then started in
on the hay... I'll
tell you, if I want a horse hauled safely and kindly, I will take him again
in a New York minute. He is wonderful, kept in touch with me the entire
way, and took really good care of the mare. Boy
is she gorgeous! I love her already. Thanks
Sue, I'll take some pics later and will keep you posted on my SECOND Legacy
Friesian! :-)))))
-Lynn
her first stretch at a few hours old!
Here is Iris's Onne filly at about a week old
What long legs!
Iris
is a drop dead gorgeous 5 year old mare who has very elegant movement.
And she is CONFIRMED IN FOAL for 2008 to none other than ONNE
376!
Onne
376 won the World Championship in 2007!
Iris
has an inbreeding coefficient of only 3.32%. She also has a VERY
thick mane- enough for both sides of her neck! Iris was bred
and owned by a FPS judge in Holland. He unfortunately died last year
and that is when our business partner bought Iris:
Inspector
Arend Mandemaker passed away, 3/10/07. Last evening after a short
and
serious illness KFPS inspector Arend Mandemaker passed away. Our
thoughts
go out to Baukje Mandemaker and the children and we wish them lots
of
strength to deal with the loss.
With
Arend Mandemaker we lost a multi-faceted Friesian-horse man. Mandemaker
was
successful as a breeder of Friesian horses with the Ut 'e Leanen barn
name
but he was also successful at show-driving competitions where he most
recently
won prizes with the team Jantyne and Tjallen ut 'e Leanen
(the dam of Iris). The KFPS
benefited
from his in-depth knowledge of the Friesian horse with him as a
studbook
inspector. The KFPS is endebted to Arend Mandemaker for his support
for
the association and above all his support for the Friesian horse. This
Tuesday
a farewell service will be held at riding school 'De Oorsprong' in
St.
Nicolaasga, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Before that the opportunity to share
condolences
with the family. The cremation will take place as a private
ceremony
on Wednesday morning. Source: KFPS website.
Iris
got some AWESOME scores at her keuring in Drachten in 2006.
If
you live in the Netherlands, Drachten is the place where you bring your
very best horse to- it is highly competitve, and she just missed star there.
Check out her scores- they are higher than most approved stallions for
the categories!
Iris
is from Stam 46, the same line where Wander 352, Hannes 296, Bjinse 241,
and Hylke 186 were from. Also the famous and well performing mare,
Pinksterblom was from Stam 46. Iris has unbroken Star or better in her
motherline, which goes all the way back to Jantine (born in 1949), the
famous mare who basically started Stam 46. She is full
papered in pedigree. We recommend trying her again for star.
